CNY in China Town, London

Went to China town the other day to absorb the atmosphere of Chinese New Year Celebration! Some of the roads there were closed for the celebration. The streets were decorated with red lanterns. We reached there in the morning and there already quite a lot of people around. Playing with fire crackers, sell some foods and Chinese stuff.

At about 11am, there were a parade. It's not a very large parade. There were lion dance, dragon dance. To my surprise, some of the lion dance and dragon dance were performed by British. Huhuhu... I guess not only chinese can do the lion dance hor.

The parade

After the parade, the crowd is getting more and more. It was super duper crowded in China town. A lot of people waiting for the fireworks display at 1pm. Yup, it's in the afternoon. Hahaha... We can see the fireworks though. The firework is not the verybig ones like during new year. It's just small fireworks with a lot of fire crackers. Huhuhu... Finish the fireworks, it's hard to get out from there. People just too many. I got separated from the rest of my friends. They went in china Town to buy some groceries. I didn't go in bcos it's so crowded it's hard to move. I just called and wait for them outside China Town.

The crowd

They have this one way system where we can only enter China town from one side and come out from the other. Despite of the effort of controlling the crowd. It was still very packed.

After waiting for sometime, we finally met in one of the tube station and went for lunch cum dinner. It was already 4pm. Hahaha... We ate at Burger shack (If i remember correctly) The burger was not too bad. Huhuhu... The meat smells nice and tastes good! =D

From MSN Messenger to the World

Copied from my friend's Blog... Let's help the world!!!

Windows Live Messenger (a.k.a MSN Messenger) is holding a initiative for a worthy cause, and everyone of us can be part of the them. Just by putting an emoticon on your nick name, every message that you send on your chat from now on, will help to raise some amount of money for charity organization of your choice. At first, it sounded like those chain emails that says I'll get millions dollars from Microsoft if I forward the email to 10 or 20 friends, but this one is a legitimate information.

How does it work?
1. Use Messenger 8.1
2. Add the i'm emoticon to your display name by entering the code of the cause you would like to support (hint: I suggest adding it at the end of your name so you still appear in the correct alphabetic order in your contacts list)
3. Send and receive IMs
4. A portion of the advertising revenue generated by your usage of Messenger will be donated to your cause. So the more IMs you send and receive the more money will be donated to your cause.

What are the i'm emoticon codes and causes?
1. American Red Cross -- ready to help, code = *red+u
2. Boys & Girls Clubs of America -- providing a positive place for kids, code = *bgca
3. National AIDS Fund -- fighting AIDS, code = *naf
4. National MS Society -- joining the MS movement, code = *mssoc
5. ninemillion.org -- helping 9 million refugee kids, code = *9mil
6. Sierra Club -- exploring and protecting the planet, code = *sierra
7. StopGlobalWarming.org -- stopping global warming, code = *help
8. Susan G. Komen for the Cure -- finding the cure, code = *komen
9. UNICEF -- helping kids survive, code = *unicef

So, what are you waiting for, join in the initiative, and together, we can help to raise funds for the needy

Sweden Trip 1

Hur mår du? Hehehe... That's how are you in Swedish. I went to Sweden on the 23rd Feb till 27th Feb 07. This would be my fourth country I visited. Hehehe... Six of us went there to have a hell of good time. Me, FC, ET, TW, LNA, and AL. We started our journey to Sweden on Thursday night. We set off from our home about 2030. We headed to London Stansted Airport where we took our flight to Stockholm Skavsta. Our flight was only at 0605 in the morning. Huhuhu... Yup, we spent night in the airport. We reached the airport at about 12midnight. There were a lot of people waiting for morning flight I guess. We walked around the airport, looking for a spot to sit and spend the night. We found a place, put our baggage there. After that, I opened my sleeping bag and sleep. Hahaha... Some of us were planning on where to go in Stockholm. I didn't really know the details of that. I was sleeping really well, considering sleeping on the floor. Hahaha... ET said I even snored. Ups... Sorry guys!!! =P I woke up in the morning about 0330. We went to the Ryanair counter. Checked in. No problem!!

Our bags and reaching Stockholm Skavsta Airport

When we reached Skavsta, no problem with immigration. Stockholm Skavsta is not in the center of Stockholm. It's one of those budget airports for budget airlines. To go to the Stockholm, we need to take a bus. The bus ride cost us 199 SEK return. It took us 1hr 20mins. Kinda far ya. But that's a budget airline and airport for us. =D When we reached Stockholm that day, it was snowing. In fact, it was snowing the whole day we spent there. =D The snow if very nice. I can even see the snow flake shapes. =D We reached the bus station and put our bags in the lockers. There were different sizes of lockers. It ranges from 30, 40, 60 and 80 SEK for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you will need to put more money in order to get your bags back. We put all our luggage in the 60SEK locker. Ya I meant ALL. That is 2x60L bags, 4x45L backpacks and few plastic bags (Look at the pics =P). I didn't know how it can go in there. But it did. Thanks to the effort of ET, TW, FC and LNA. Hehehe... From there, we sets off to the tourist information center. There, we asked the girl what's around in Stockholm, where to find Swedish meatballs, supermarket. Hahaha... We set off to the old town in the end. It's a part of Stockholm. I like this place. I don't know. It's just the feeling of the city. I just love it. And you know what? All around us is white!!! Everything is covered in snow. Super nice. There were people skating in outdoor. Don't have that in Singapore or Indonesia for sure. =P

Around Stockholm

We had our lunch in this nice restaurant in old town called Glenfiddich Warehouse no 68. We ordered Game Meatball and Elk Burger. Two of us shared these two dishes. I like the mash potatoes that came with Game Meatball. Two dishes were nice. I preferred the meatball though. =D

re IMG_1029 re IMG_1028
Our food in Stockholm, Game Meatballs and Elk Burger

From there, we set off to supermarket because we need to catch our train at 1700 to Abisko Ostra. The train station (Stockholm C) is just beside the bus station (City Terminal) where we stopped. We went to buy our food for dinner, supper and snacks for our train journey. The train journey will last us 17 hours. Hahaha.. Yup, no kidding. It's 17hrs. Why do we do that? Because the flight from Stockholm to Kiruna is somehow expensive although the other way around is not and no airport in Abisko. Confusing hor. We parted on the way back to the train station bcos I needed to print out the train tickets from Abisko Ostra to Kiruna. When I got to the train station, I found this very long queue to print the tickets. The problem was that I can't print it in Abisko Ostra and when I reach the station it was 1615. I have 45mins to print the tickets, get our bags from the lockers and catch our train. I finished print our tickets at about 1640. I ran to lockers and found nobody there. I waited and thought we gonna miss our train. About 1650, ET came alone. Where is the rest? She said they were in the supermarket buying stuff and the queue was long. Damn... Me and ET opened our locker, brought all our bags (you know how many bags we had). Ran to the train station and hoped to meet them on the way to the station. And we did!!! They were running to the locker. We hurried to where our train is. We managed to get our butt in the train just before it closed its door. Phew... What a relived, just hoped that we didn't leave anything behind. Huhuhu...

Train Station, Stockholm C

We looked for our seats. We found one compartment just for ourselves. There were six seats in the compartment where we can turn into 6 beds. Cool!!! I like this compartment. So lucky that we have this. Hahaha... We happily put our luggage in and rested after all those running around. =P There are restaurant and even shower on the train. Hahaha... The conductor then came to check our tickets just to find that we were in the wrong compartment. We needed to move to the next coach.

re IMG_1034
Our compartment with 6 beds

After finish, we just sit there, chit chat all night, we had a long journey anyway. Hahaha... Then, about 2100, we were about to do some calculation on what we spent and needed to pay. ET found her bag was missing. It's the important bag with all her money, passport, wallet and all important stuff. We looked everywhere, turned the place up side down without sighting of her bags. It's time to check outside our compartment. We went to the previous compartment just to find another people there. ET and AL asked them whether they saw any bags. They said they didn't. We then asked the conductor to check around. No luck. I, FC and LNA were still looking around our compartment to see. We all were desperate to find it. This could be the end of our trip. Money lost can be borrowed from us, but passport lost. That's really a big problem! When ET came back with no luck, we were about to let it go. Suddenly the conductor came with ET's bag, just after ET went in the door to our compartment. It was such a relive. We all could ease our mind. There were a good Samaritans on the train who return ET's bag! Thank you whoever you are! Everything was in tact, nothing lost! Phew...

Changing Train

We had no mood to do anything, we just chit chat and postponed our accounting session. =P What an adrenaline rush. We slept at about 2230. I slept well on that train and woke up about 0500. We need to change train at 0641. Our second train was not as good as the first one. There was a mistake on the tickets, we were separated seats. When we got on the train, there was a lady in the compartment with her dog. Hehehe... The dog was really friendly. It greeted me. Huhuhu... It then slept under my leg. Such a cute dog!!! =D We reached Abisko Ostra one hour late than expected. =( Next post will be in Abisko Ostra and Abisko Turistation! =D

Sweden Trip 2

Reached at Abisko Ostra about 12 noon. It's like a faraway place. Hey, we passed the Artic Line!!! A lot of mountains around with the nature. It's just next to Abisko National Park. Everything is covered in snow. Even we couldn't see the road. Huhuhu... We took a lot of pictures when we walking to find our hostel. It's Abisko Fjalturer. It's not far from the train station. It's a big red house with a dog as it's logo. =D Hehehe... You'll find the place easily.

Abisko Fjalturer, we go in. There is no reception. The man in charge is Mr Orjan. He is a very nice guy! He showed our room. It's a 6 bed-room. Just nice for 6 of us in one room. After we rest and changed, we sent to the supermarket which is close to the hostel. We bought breads for our dinner and breakfast. They have this nice bread. The bread is super nice. I think they don't have it here in UK. =( Can't remember the name. But I'll know if I see it.

We continued our journey to Abisko Turisstation. We walked there. It's a bright sunny day, still cold though. It's about 2km walk. Hehehe... But we enjoyed it, took pics while walking enjoying the scenery. When we reached we looked for the canyon. The canyon was freezing. The sight was nice, but I guess it should better during summer. =D We walked back after that.

Scenery when we walk

We went back to have our dinner. In the kitchen, we met with a guy from Australia and two guys from Bulgaria. The Australian stayed in Sweden and was looking for a job there. Hans and Alexander came to Sweden for a week for holiday. They told me they went to Kiruna two days before. They went to the Ice hotel and told us some tips to Ice Hotel. Huhuhu... Won't tell you now. If you want, I'll let you know via email. =D After dinner, we stayed in our room to do calculation which we didn't do yesterday. During collecting money, Hans came in to tell us that Northern Light was out. We got our jackets, put on our shoes, walked out. The light was gone. =( We went to this field behind our hostel. It's completely dark there. No light. We could see the whole sky there. The moon was bright enough such that there was a shadow of me from the moonlight. We stood there for about 45mins with no sign of Northern Light. We came back to the hostel to warm ourselves. It was really cold man. After warm enough we walked out again. This time we saw it!!! The northern light was big. It was huge across the sky!!! The intensity was not so bright. It's dull but nice. It was like fire burning. Moving like fire. I couldn't take a pics of it. Too dark... =( We saw some more Northern light with less light later in the night. I saw a shooting star as well!!! I quickly made a wish... We slept at about 12midnight that day. We missed the Swedish sauna that night. Mr Orjan told us that he would prepare for us later at night, but we were waiting for the Northern Light. There's something special about Swedish sauna. I bet some of you know about it. Huhuhu... If you don't, then it's for you to find out!!! =D

Sweden Trip 4

The next day, we went to Kiruna's tourist information center. We asked things. The lady knows everything. She helped us booked taxi from hostel to airport for the next morning, booked our Northern Light trip on Snow Mobile, directed us to the Ice Hotel, showed us places of interest around Kiruna, where to eat. Thank you!!! We then moved to Kiruna town hall, went to Kiruna Church. It's a small Church with Sami design. Sami is the tribe that once lived in Kiruna. They stayed in a tent which looks like Indian's in US. Hehehe... There are still some Samis in Kiruna but they live in modern house, not tent anymore. =P

Next, Ice Hotel, we need to get tickets to go into Ice Hotel. The cost is 120SEK per person. Ice hotel is made of Ice. Literally made of Ice. Everything in there. The roof, the floor, the bed (Well, there is pillow and mattress which are not made of ice). Huhuhu... The rooms are sculptured by artists from all over the world. They were invited to this place for decorating the house. Ice Hotel is rebuilt every year. And the theme every year is different. Very interesting. The ice was taken from the Torne River (the cleanest river in the world, I heard). The ice is so clear that there are no bubbles inside. When you look at your ice from the fridge, there should be some white color in it. For this ice, they are totally clear. Good quality ice they said. =D There is a Ice Church as well. They host wedding there also. You can get your holy matrimony in there if you like. They have like 150 weddings in the winter. Hohoho... We went for a drink in Ice Bar as well. =D Drank from a glass made of Ice. The real Ice Bar. Hohoho...

From there, we went back to our hostel to get dinner. We only have an hour to cook and eat. We spent like 30 mins to cook and eat. Hahaha... Because we are going for northern light tour and they pick us up at 7pm. We booked it from Camp Alta. The guy was on time, he drove us outside of Kiruna to his house. There, we got change to a warm clothing, boots, beanie, and gloves. The suit is really warm just like the one that I use for dog sleighing. For this northern light tour, we were riding snow mobile! Yeah!!! There are two person in one snow mobile. Me and FC, TW and ET, AL and LNA. We went to up the mountain. It took us about one hour to go up there. Snow mobile is fun. It's really easy, just accelerate and brake. =D The bad thing about that tour is that it was foggy that night. We couldn't see a thing. We should be able to see the Kiruna city from the top mountain. The night before, they saw northern light from there. Then we descended to a camp in the forest. The guide has a tent in the forest. He made campfire, made coffee (Good coffee), eat some biscuits. We went together with a French couple. We were also accompanied by a little mouse that went in to AL suit. It's looking for warm place to sleep I guess. Hehehe... Then we headed back to his house. Actually behind his house is a lake. The lake is frozen and covered with snow. He let us played around the lake with snow mobile. So me and FC accelerated our snow mobile as fast as we can go. Hahaha... I was almost caught in the snow because the snow is so thick. Luckily, managed to get out from it.

On Snowmobile

We finished our tour. It was already 12midnight. We head back to our hostel, take a bath and slept because we need to go up early to catch our early flight.

There were a lot of props, Some of them can move, really nice! Superb! Well done to the crew! I specially love the scene of the custom party! It's was super nice. It came right after the break. I won't tell you any longer. You should watch yourself. Hehehe...
